Health Care

I am tired of hearing the supporters of this bullshit ObamaCare bill claim the opponents deny that there is a need for reform. I haven’t seen anyone deny that there is a need for healthcare reform. There is a need for reform! We just disagree on what “reform” means. Government takeover of Healthcare is not what this country needs. Government intrudes on our life enough as it is. Why the fuck would you want government controlling every aspect of your life? And of all things, healthcare? You’ve gotta be insane. I know your heart is in the right place. But think with your head, not your heart. Don’t be naive in thinking that this bill will make life easier for everyone. Government usually fucks up whatever it touches. If this bill comes to pass, Government will be fucking with your lives.

Your posts are usually pretty intelligible and thoughtful. This one, though, kind of missed the mark. If anyone were proposing government takeover of health care, your rantings may have a point. Since nobody is, however, they don't. You're watching too much FOX News! ;)

I do believe we need health care reform. I only wish people, even in the Obama administration, would get on the same page. There is so much confusion. While I will remain perfectly comfortable with my own insurance, my concern is for the millions who do not have that luxury. Truly, we end up paying for them through Medicaid fraid or taxes. Why not legalize it? Of course, I also think marijuana should be legalized so go figure.

Sorry, that would be Medicaid Fraud. Told you I was confused....

@cherlock, I totally agree...marijuana should be legalized.

@Len, I rarely watch any of the news channels.

@Sandee, thanks :)

The government usually fucks up whatever it touches. The would be what part of the government exactly. The part that defends the country? The part that keeps the water fairly pure and the air mostly breathable? The part that runs the schools? The part that puts out fires and patrols your streets? The part that provides health care to millions of people day in and day out and has done so for decades? Which part are we talking about here? Tell you what. I'll love my life with the government we have and you live yours with absolutely zero government involvement. Let me know how it works out for you.

I can see your point.

For myself, I've been thinking I'd rather have something than nothing, so I've been a supporter of Obama's plan, flawed as I think it is. Not that "what it is" is an easy thing to pin down these days.

One thing I know for sure, the powers-that-be (i.e. mega-rich old white guys) will make certain the results benefit them as much as possible, and the rest of us as little as possible.

You're damn skippy! Let's get government out of our lives right now! Let's dissolve the following:

police
fire department
departments of transportation
departments of education
medicare
army
navy
air force
marines
coast guard

Let's not get ridiculous, people. There is a role for government, but somewhere, that line needs to be drawn.

I agree. We need tort refrom, we need to allow people to purchase insurnace across state lines, we need to remove employers as the providers of health insurance, we need health savings accounts and more. We need refrom but reform that puts health decisions and ownership of an individual's health insurance in the hand of the individual and that gives the individual a reason to care what his health care cost. We also may need "health care" rather than payment for treating illness and ordering test. This is the modle of the Mayo Clinic.
